Why this event matters
Thanks to your support over the past three years, the Wiffle Ball Tournament has grown into more than just a community tradition—it has fueled real scientific breakthroughs. Together, we’ve helped the PSMC5 Foundation fund critical research for children with rare genetic conditions.
Because of your generosity:
- Researchers identified that the P312R alteration in the PSMC5 gene disrupts how brain cells “clean up” damaged proteins.
- This discovery was strong enough that P312R is now officially recognized as disease-causing (“pathogenic”).
- That recognition means children diagnosed with this variant now immediately receive medical support and research attention—something that didn’t exist just a few years ago.
And we’re not stopping here. The next phase of research is focused on seeking potential treatment options, including new approaches in gene therapy.
Simply put: your support has already changed lives, and it continues to push us closer to real solutions for children and families around the world.
